Recently, I along with some other Drimnagh community members attended a village workshop in the Mansion house where Dublin Lord Mayor Gerry Breen had invited business representatives from the 30+ ‘villages’ of Dublin. The aim was for to find out more about what can be achieved when local business owners work together to promote their products & services as a collective. Rhona Delaney from Clontarf & Peter Dwan from Ranelagh spoke of their experiences in putting together marketing campaigns to promote the local businesses in their area. The Lord Mayor spoke of it’s success and said

“On Tuesday, 31st of August, I held my first Village Workshop.  Business owners, community leaders, councillors and members of the DCC staff came together to brainstorm about how we can better market our small businesses and the villages they call home.  The enthusiasm was terrific, and the buzz that was generated motivated everyone who was there”.

Whilst I wouldn’t say the enthusiasm was terrific from everyone, there certainly was a air of people wanting to do something about promoting their business rather than sitting around waiting on something to happen.  The outcome of the village workshop for Drimnagh was twofold. Firstly, the Lord Mayor Gerry Breen decided on an impromptu visit to Drimnagh on the Friday after the workshop. He visited local shop owners on Galtymore Rd & Benbulbin Rd. Gerry introduced himself & listened to the shop keepers concerns about their businesses & the future.

Secondly, the Drimnagh Community Network an umbrella networking organistion for community, business & voluntary groups in Drimnagh decided to host a business marketing workshop. The workshop will be presented by John Phelan of www.ourshoplocal.com & he will discuss how the local businesses in Clontarf got together to promote their village as one on the Clontarf Village website.

So if you are a local business owner or know someone who is get them to come along on Tuesday the 14th September from 7pm until 9pm in the GAA Good Counsel grounds on the Davitt Road. This workshop is fully sponsored by Drimnagh Community Network & is free for all local business owners to attend.
