festival poster 20148

I’ve been banging on about the Drimnagh Festival on Facebook for a while now so I decided to do a little blog to give you a little bit more detail as to what is involved and the reasons behind the Festival.

The Festival began four years ago, it’s hard to imagine that we are only in our fourth year to be honest! I personally got involved last year for the first time and it was actually through the Drimnagh Facebook page. I saw a post about the meeting, decided to pop down to the Bosco and by the end of that first meeting I was the new secretary! It all happened so fast that I don’t think I still believe it.

The Festival was initially started to give the community something good to look forward to. Something that could bring the community together. Each year we have tried to get bigger and better and this year I think will be our biggest year yet.

Drimnagh like most other areas gets some bad media coverage, especially over the last few weeks and months so this year it is vitally important that we show the people of Drimnagh and further afield that, that image of Drimnagh is not a true reflection of the people who live here. Drimnagh is full of interesting characters and the great interest and excitement I feel around the Festival when I post about it on Facebook is heartwarming so I know that there are good people living in Drimnagh and that is what I want to show.

We are committed to putting on the best Festival we possibly can. The committee is made up completely of volunteers who are all local residents. We all have one goal in mind. To show that a dedicated team of people can put on a fantastic Festival for the people of this community to enjoy. It also helps that all the events throughout the day are free too! :)

So, this is where you all come in. The Festival will not be a success unless you, the community come to it. So on June 13th and 14th, come along. I promise you we have something for all ages from the much famed Duck race of two years ago which was very popular to the Teenline Talent stage which is showcasing some of the amazing young talent Drimnagh has to offer.  You will not be disappointed. Check out the poster above for a full list of the activities or you can also check out the Facebook page.

Come on, let’s show the people of Dublin that Drimnagh is where the party is at! :)
